CVTA's ELDT Task Force Featured in Washington Examiner Op-Ed

Highway safety remains a core priority for the trucking driver training industry and the American public alike, and CVTA’s Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) Task Force has been at the forefront of advancing meaningful solutions to strengthen it.

In a recent Washington Examiner op-ed, CVTA highlighted the significant federal enforcement actions underway that align with years of advocacy urging stronger compliance with CDL training standards. CVTA’s ELDT Task Force has consistently served as the “tip of the spear” in identifying non-compliant training providers, pushing for enhanced oversight, and collaborating with partners at the U.S. Department of Transportation and FMCSA to ensure that only legitimate, safety-minded schools remain on the Training Provider Registry. This nationwide enforcement surge — including hundreds of FMCSA audits and action against thousands of questionable programs — reflects the real-world impact of CVTA’s sustained advocacy and the association’s commitment to safer roads and a more reputable trucking workforce.

Importantly, the Washington Examiner piece underscores that rigorous training isn’t a bureaucratic burden but an essential foundation for public safety and professional driver development. CVTA members — representing the industry’s most safety-focused training institutions — have welcomed these enforcement measures and demonstrated their readiness to meet and exceed federal standards, proving that quality training pays dividends for students, employers, and the motoring public. By championing meaningful enforcement, real audits, and the removal of fraudulent training operations, CVTA’s ELDT Task Force continues to shape policy and drive a future where high-quality training is the norm, not the exception.
