CVTA staff recently met with the Office of Rep. Dave Taylor for a follow-up discussion after a prior engagement with Congressman Taylor at the Veteran Ready Summit. The conversation reflected strong alignment on highway safety, workforce quality, and the importance of enforceable training standards for entry-level commercial drivers. CVTA Executive Director Andrew Poliakoff underscored the value of the Congressional Trucking Caucus and recent enforcement actions at USDOT and FMCSA as meaningful steps toward greater accountability in driver training and licensing.

The exchange also touched on operational challenges facing training providers, including non-domiciled CDL applications, testing backlogs, and the role of third-party testing in supporting both workforce needs and safety outcomes. The discussion underscored a shared interest in continued collaboration on key safety and workforce priorities, including legislative efforts such as Connor’s Law and bipartisan safety training grants, reinforcing a constructive, healthy working relationship.
