Trucking’s Vital Role Under Consideration at Upcoming Congressional Hearing

As Congress begins laying the groundwork for the next surface transportation reauthorization, lawmakers are turning their attention to the backbone of America's supply chain—the trucking industry.

On March 26, 2025, the House Highways and Transit Subcommittee, led by Chairman David Rouzer (R-NC), will convene a hearing to examine current U.S. Department of Transportation policies and programs that directly impact commercial trucking. Titled “America Builds: How Trucking Supports American Communities,” the session will spotlight the essential role of trucking in connecting goods, businesses, and people across the nation.

Set to take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, the hearing will feature testimony from a diverse panel of industry leaders. Witnesses include John Elliott of the Truckload Carriers Association, Lewie Pugh of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, Ryan Lindsey representing the Shippers Coalition, Dan Glessing from the American Farm Bureau Federation, and Cole Scandaglia of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

CVTA will be closely monitoring the proceedings and stands ready to support solutions that invest in the people and programs that keep America moving. As lawmakers consider ways to strengthen and modernize the transportation system, ensuring a robust pipeline of well-trained, safety-conscious drivers must remain a top priority.
