Senate Commerce Committee to Vote on FMCSA Nominee Barrs on Wednesday, July 30th

Chief Derek Barrs—nominated to serve as the next FMCSA Administrator—recently completed his confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee. His nomination will be considered during a full committee Executive Session, scheduled by Chairman Ted Cruz for Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. ET. This is a key step in the confirmation process as Barrs and other nominees must still pass a full Senate vote later this year.

His extensive background in law enforcement and oversight roles positions him to lead FMCSA with the authority and insight needed to enforce the Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) Rule and ensure accountability within the Training Provider Registry (TPR).
