The Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA) is proud to highlight a recent milestone for member school Diesel Driving Academy (DDA). U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) visited DDA’s Baton Rouge campus to meet with students, tour the facilities, and discuss the critical importance of workforce development through career training.
Senator Cassidy praised the impact of commercial driver’s license (CDL) programs on working Americans, stating, “Getting a commercial driver’s license is an entryway into better-paying jobs and a better life. This is workforce development that benefits the driver and us all.” His visit was featured in an article published by the Associated Press, further highlighting the event’s significance.
The visit also included a special scholarship presentation by Greg Hamm, Vice President of Field and Government Recruiting for CVTA carrier member, Werner Enterprises. Werner awarded four $500 scholarships to deserving DDA students to support their career advancement. Several distinguished leaders in education and workforce development were in attendance, including Dr. Jason Altmire, President and CEO of Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU), as well as regional Workforce Development Board representatives. Barry Busada, Senior Vice President of DDA, thanked Senator Cassidy for his continued support, noting the Senator’s efforts to expand access to education funding and career pathways for Louisiana students.
During the event, Senator Cassidy toured the DDA training facilities, interacted with students and instructors, and even got behind the wheel of a late-model semi-truck on the school’s driving range—demonstrating his hands-on endorsement of technical education. This marks Senator Cassidy’s second visit to a DDA campus and reinforces his commitment to strengthening America’s workforce through career-focused education. Diesel Driving Academy, a leader in CDL training for over 50 years, remains at the forefront of preparing students for successful, high-demand careers in the transportation industry.
