CVTA Chairman Jeff Burkhardt appeared on Newsmax’s First Edition to represent the association in a discussion on English-language proficiency, CDL qualifications, and consistent enforcement across the commercial driver system. Burkhardt emphasized that English-language standards have been in place for decades and that roadway safety depends on every part of the system, including training providers, licensing agencies, examiners, motor carriers, and enforcement officials, upholding established requirements. Industry demand cannot supersede safety standards. Consistent enforcement of existing law is essential to ensuring that only properly trained, tested, licensed, and qualified drivers operate commercial vehicles.
“The English-language proficiency standard has been part of this sector of transportation and commercial driving for decades,” said CVTA Chairman Jeff Burkhardt. “Simply enforcing that and many other regulations is going to go a long way toward preventing these types of tragic accidents.”
