FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs opened Women In Trucking’s 2026 Accelerate! Conference on Oct. 27 with a keynote on fleet safety. He covered driver qualifications, enforcement, carrier accountability, and the agency’s review of existing regulations.

During Q&A, CVTA Chairman Jeff Burkhardt thanked Barrs and his team for their work on Entry-Level Driver Training, rooting out bad actors, and partnering with CVTA.

CVTA has backed FMCSA’s enforcement push all year. When USDOT removed 550 noncompliant schools from the Training Provider Registry in February, Burkhardt said, “We commend Secretary Duffy and Administrator Barrs for transforming these long-standing concerns into real enforcement.” In April, he added, “Strong enforcement is what ensures that standards are applied consistently across the industry.”

For member schools, consistent enforcement means they no longer have to compete with providers that cut corners.

Safer roads start with well-trained drivers. CVTA will keep working with the FMCSA and industry partners to make that happen.
