Update: The TPR now reflects 244 removals, an increase of 150 in the last two weeks.
Under Administrator Derek Barrs’ new leadership, the agency has recently increased the number of training entities removed from the Training Provider Registry (TPR) from 94 to 244. This action represents a modest but noteworthy step toward ensuring that only qualified and compliant training providers remain in the system. While that ultimate goal is still very far away, we want to note the modest moment of progress. CVTA appreciates FMCSA’s partnership in working to police the integrity of the Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) system and hopes that this new era will usher in sizeable changes in the amount of enforcement activities.
Indeed, more than 2,600 entities still remain under proposed removal, with hundreds more requiring scrutiny. CVTA will continue to collaborate with FMCSA and state partners to help ensure that the TPR reflects legitimate, high-quality training programs. Our collective goal remains clear: to uphold the standards of professional driver education and to safeguard the reputation of the trucking industry’s training community.
For years, CVTA has urged the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to strengthen oversight of the Training Provider Registry (TPR), the cornerstone of which is the Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) rule. This rule set a national standard for commercial driver training, ensuring new drivers demonstrate true proficiency before earning their CDL. To be effective, it must be comprehensively enforced.
