From CVTA Member - C1 Truck Driver Training: We’re excited to celebrate an incredible milestone today: Katherine Duncan pulled into C1 Truck Driver Training in Indianapolis with one goal in mind: to pass her Class A CDL test. She had spent weeks preparing—late nights, early mornings, and countless hours perfecting the skills that had once seemed impossible. That day, it all paid off. She passed on her very first try. But what made the day truly unforgettable wasn’t just the milestone she reached behind the wheel. That same afternoon, Katherine and her husband, Minister Titus Duncan, celebrated their ten-year wedding anniversary. A few hours later, they boarded a plane bound for Hawaii—a long-awaited trip made even sweeter by everything she had just accomplished.

Katherine’s road to the trucking industry didn’t begin with gears and gravel. For years, she worked in healthcare, dedicating herself to caring for others. That work grounded her and gave her a strong sense of purpose. Later, she earned a Class B CDL and became a bus driver, which gave her a glimpse into the world of transportation—but she knew she wasn’t done growing. Determined to create a more stable future and open new doors, she set her sights on earning a Class A CDL and building a career with Swift Transportation. Enrolling at C1 was her next bold step.

Training came with its share of challenges. Like many students, Katherine struggled with parallel parking on the right side and the pre-trip inspection. But she never let setbacks define her. Instead, she stayed late, practiced diligently, asked questions, and continued to show up. Her instructors took note—not just of her dedication, but of the optimism and persistence she brought with her every day. Her success didn’t come easily, but it came honestly earned through resilience and an unwavering commitment to her goals.

For Katherine, this journey wasn’t just about professional advancement. As a stepmother to five children, she understood the importance of being a role model and showing what’s possible when you invest in yourself. Her story is about building something lasting—not just a career, but a legacy. It’s the kind of story that reflects the mission of C1 and CVTA: empowering individuals to change their lives through skill-building, support, and opportunity.

Katherine’s leap from healthcare to highways reminds us all that it’s never too late to pursue a new path. Her story is a testament to faith, family, and the power of hard work. As she hits the road, CDL in hand, we know she’ll inspire others along the way. Congratulations, Katherine—the best is yet to come. If you're a CVTA member and have a student success story you'd like us to highlight, please send it our way—we’d be happy to help share it
