Washington — The Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA) applauds final passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a broad tax and workforce package that includes several key provisions with direct impact on the commercial driver training industry. Having now cleared both chambers of Congress, the bill heads to the President’s desk for signature.

Among the most significant provisions maintained in the final legislation are the expansion of 529 education savings accounts to include career and technical training. These reforms represent an important step forward in supporting Americans pursuing skilled trades and transportation careers.

In October 2023, CVTA played a pivotal role in shaping this effort when then-Chairman Jerome Redmond testified before the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee in support of the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act (H.R. 1477). His testimony emphasized the need to reduce financial barriers to high-quality workforce training, including truck driver education—a message now reflected in federal policy.

The House vote follows the Senate's amendment and advancement of the legislation earlier this week. Because the Senate-passed version differed from the original House bill—particularly in its workforce development provisions—a second vote in the House was required to reconcile those changes under regular order.

CVTA commends Congress for passing these bipartisan, pro-workforce provisions and looks forward to their enactment. By expanding access to affordable, skills-based training, this bill supports small businesses, helps address labor shortages, and reinforces the trucking industry’s central role in the American economy.
