CVTA Member NETTTS Welcomes FMCSA for Visit Highlighting Quality CDL Training

CVTA member New England Tractor Trailer Training School recently welcomed the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the USDOT Volpe team for a firsthand look at one of the nation’s long-standing leaders in commercial driver training.

The visit gave FMCSA officials an opportunity to observe NETTTS’ training environment, meet with school leadership and staff, and see how the school prepares students for commercial driving careers. For NETTTS, the visit highlighted decades of investment in hands-on instruction, student support, and workforce-focused education. Given the Volpe Center's crucial role in the data management of the TPR this visit provided a unique opportunity to gain critical field insights into ELDT delivery.

Founded in 1965, NETTTS has helped prepare generations of students for careers in commercial driving and skilled trades across New England. Its CDL programs are built around classroom instruction, practical skills development, behind-the-wheel preparation, and the real-world expectations students will face as professional drivers. “Having federal transportation leaders visit our facility is a testament to the quality of training we’ve built,” said Samantha Greenberg, Owner of NETTTS and CVTA Vice Chair. “At NETTTS, we are committed to preparing CDL drivers for the road and for the responsibility that comes with it. Visits like this are a reminder of why that mission matters.”

That experience matters. Commercial driver training requires more than familiarity with a vehicle or preparation for a skills test. Students must develop safe operating habits, understand inspection procedures, communicate effectively, and build the confidence required to enter a highly regulated profession.

NETTTS’ approach reflects the value of strong, established training providers. Through experienced instruction, hands-on learning, and continued investment in students and facilities, NETTTS demonstrates the role professional CDL programs play in strengthening the driver workforce and supporting highway safety.

The FMCSA visit also underscored the importance of direct engagement between regulators and schools that are doing the work every day. When federal officials see quality training environments firsthand, they gain a clearer understanding of how responsible providers prepare students, support employers, and contribute to safer roads.

CVTA is proud to recognize NETTTS for its continued leadership in commercial driver training and its commitment to preparing safe, skilled, and workforce-ready drivers.
