On May 29, 2025, CVTA Executive Director Andrew Poliakoff and Chairman Danny Bradford joined Mark Willis, host of SiriusXM’s Road Dog Radio, for an in-depth conversation on the critical policy issues shaping the future of truck driver training. Representing the nation’s largest association of professional truck driving schools, Poliakoff and Bradford used the platform to highlight CVTA’s recent legislative successes and underscore the importance of robust federal oversight in commercial driver education.
A significant focus of the interview was the federal government’s enforcement of Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations. Poliakoff and Bradford called on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to take swift and consistent action against non-compliant training providers listed on the Training Provider Registry (TPR). Both leaders reinforced that robust enforcement is essential to the credibility of the CDL process and the safety of our nation’s roads.
The conversation also provided an opportunity to celebrate a key legislative milestone: the House of Representative’s recent passage of a tax bill that allows 529 education savings plans to be used for truck driver training programs. This win—long pursued by CVTA—was made possible through years of strategic advocacy, including testimony from former CVTA Chairman Jerome Redmond before the House Ways and Means Committee. Bradford praised the provision as “a game changer for aspiring drivers,” removing one of the most significant financial hurdles to entering the profession.
Throughout the interview, Poliakoff and Bradford reaffirmed CVTA’s commitment to advancing high standards in commercial driver training and working with policymakers to strengthen the trucking workforce. Their appearance on Road Dog Radio offered a clear signal: CVTA is not only leading the national conversation on CDL policy but also delivering results that benefit schools, students, and the broader economy. As the industry continues to evolve, CVTA’s voice remains a trusted one on the airwaves and in the halls of government.
