CVTA Board Member Tim Kordula, Veriha Trucking President Karen Smercheck, and Midwest Carriers President Eric VanHandel met with Congressman Tony Wied (WI-08) last week at his district office in Wisconsin. The group discussed key trucking issues, including federal oversight, industry taxes, and workforce quality challenges.
The conversation highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity of commercial driver training. On that point, the group discussed illicit CDL mills, oversight of the Training Provider Registry (TPR), and the need for strong enforcement of Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) standards. The group also discussed federal efforts underway at USDOT and FMCSA, particularly recent moves to identify and remove non-compliant training providers. CVTA applauds the advocacy efforts of CVTA members from Veriha Trucking, which align with the Association’s commitment to consistent, competency-based, safety-focused instruction.
CVTA appreciates Congressman Wied and his staff for their engagement. We also thank CVTA Board Member Tim Kordula for his steadfast leadership on issues affecting our members. Member-driven advocacy strengthens quality training providers and supports policies that protect students, drivers, and the motoring public.
