Effective truck driver training starts before a driver ever gets behind the wheel. This commitment to quality was evident during the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's recent visit to CVTA member Roadmaster Drivers School in San Antonio, TX.
These visits allow FMCSA to connect with training providers, observe programs firsthand, and better understand the daily work of preparing safe, qualified commercial drivers. This visit also highlights the essential role professional CDL schools play in promoting highway safety and workforce development nationwide.
"It was a privilege to host Patrick Nemons and Andrew Poliakoff at our San Antonio location to showcase Roadmaster's commitment to quality standards for truck driver education, said Brad Ball, President of Roadmaster. "At Roadmaster, we believe effective training goes beyond simply earning a CDL; it is built on a foundation of safety and accountability. We fully applaud the FMCSA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Training Provider Registry and 'clean up' the industry by removing bad actors. By ensuring all providers meet these high standards, we aren't just licensed drivers—we are developing the skilled entry-level drivers who will keep our highways safe."
Founded in 1992, Roadmaster Drivers School is now one of the most recognized Class A CDL training networks in the country, having prepared over 125,000 graduates for trucking careers nationwide. Like many CVTA member schools, Roadmaster recognizes that effective training goes beyond passing a test or earning a CDL. It is built on professionalism, accountability, and the development of safe driving habits that prepare students for real-world demands. Strong training produces not just licensed drivers, but skilled professionals equipped for long-term success and a safer industry.
These visits reinforce CVTA's position that strong relationships between regulators and training providers lead to better outcomes for all. Direct engagement by FMCSA fosters valuable dialogue on training standards, industry needs, and the daily challenges schools face. Roadmaster's commitment to hands-on instruction, modern equipment, and student-focused career placement exemplifies the type of program these discussions are meant to highlight.
CVTA is proud to see member schools like Roadmaster recognized in these important discussions. Schools that invest in high-quality training, experienced instructors, modern equipment, and student success do more than meet expectations; they set the benchmark for professional driver education. These programs strengthen the workforce, support reputable motor carriers, and directly improve safety across the trucking industry.
As the industry focuses on safety, compliance, and workforce growth, collaboration between FMCSA and trusted training providers remains essential. Visits like this show that the best results come when all parties work toward the shared goal of safer roads and better-prepared drivers.
