CVTA Backs Bipartisan CREATES Act to Improve Transparency in Workforce Training

As the landscape of workforce training continues to expand, clarity for students and job seekers has become increasingly important. The Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA) is supporting the bipartisan Credential Repositories and Transparency in States (CREATES) Act, introduced by Representatives Lucy McBath (GA-06) and Burgess Owens (UT-04), which aims to help states develop centralized, accessible credential data systems. By improving how information on training programs is collected and shared, the legislation seeks to give individuals a clearer understanding of program costs, outcomes, and career pathways before making critical decisions about their future.

In a letter of support dated April 15, 2026, CVTA emphasized that stronger transparency tools can help more individuals make informed choices that lead to long-term workforce success, while also reinforcing the value of high-quality training programs that deliver meaningful results. As Sean Williams, CVTA Board Member and Chair of the Legislative Committee, noted, “The CREATES Act makes a meaningful investment in something that student job-seekers have needed for a long time: clear, accessible information about which training programs actually lead to successful careers. At CVTA, we see every day what it means for someone to find a truck driver training program that delivers on its promise. When states have the tools to make outcomes, costs, and career pathways visible to prospective students, more people can make the choice that's right for them.

For CVTA members, the legislation aligns with a core priority: ensuring that prospective students can identify programs that provide real pathways into the workforce. Greater transparency does not complicate the system; it strengthens it by elevating programs that deliver on their promise and supporting a more informed, effective workforce pipeline.
